Houses Of Parliament - Poem by Lizelah Thaugally

You're a golden palace rising up
Lighting up a winter’s sky
A haunting gothic beauty,
Romantic
Crowds gather watching you
Taking pictures,
Admiring your statuesque form
We want to stand with you
And make time standstill
Take a picture to tell people
We were there with you
Not quite knowing you but wanting to
We have a love affair with you
For all that you could mean
Inside you quell all notions of romance
It’s all about legislation, regulations, politicians
It’s all about debates, deficits, debts and deployment
Your benches are making history
Whilst you stand proud on the river, historical
A benchmark for other aspiring landmarks
You’re shaping our futures
It’s you that is watching over us all.

I really like how you describe this architecture as though it has a soul, a sex, a conscience! ! As if! We are talking of politicians here... LOL!
But it is so very descriptive it had me enthralled from start to end.
Wonderful scribbling Lizelah. HG: -) xx
