The simplest atom, with a proton in it's nucleus and an orbiting electron, the orbit needs two electrons, so its valency is one, it always remains hungry and thirsty for another electron, when gets another hugs it kisses it and sleeps for further dreams. (Report) Reply

The Oxygen atom is Thirsty and wants 2 electrons to fill its valence, so 2 hydrogen atoms share their electron, stablizing the molecule. But I like your imagery of atoms hugging.
