I Fall In Love Way Too Damn Much (Eyes Like Northern Lights) - Poem by Ray Mesa

I know a girl that laughs
And the clouds open
I know a girl that smiles
And makes the moon look like a wet candle
I know a girl that has skin like a ghost
And eyes like the northern lights
I know a girl that has a Shawnee Smith Smile
And lips like Marilyn Monroe

She's none existent
But I dream of her all the time
She's not real
Yet I see her everyday

I fall in love everyday
And it's so surreal
That every word and rhyme
Bring me nothing closer to anyone

I dream of a girl that flies
With golden hair and wings
I dream of a girl that never lies
She has open arms
Walking towards me and singing my name

In a dress made from tears
Confronting her father and fears
Her mother, just ain’t here
And she finds meaning at the bottom of a can of beer
Dancing circles around the biers
Of a thousand dead lovers
Her father and mother
Just don’t give two damns about her
So she cuts, cuts and cuts more
Crawls into a corner and hides
Those words you’ll never find
Are ever so unkind
And slipping you a sip
Of some alcoholic sin
A match and some flint
Burning the reasons we never knew
So here we are I and You
And I know you don’t love me
I know you don’t dream of me
You never have cared about me
And you never will
Yet I keep fighting to wake next to you
I just want to be near you
I don’t know why but I want you

This is not make believe
This is real life
Oh these emotions that feed
Are cutting me like a knife
Life without a wife
Is making me bleed
Wakening next to air
Is making me pull out what’s left of my hair
Strolling alone in the rain
Is driving me fucking insane

But when you move
To some other town
And I never again see you
Fly with the wind, leaving behind no sound
I will not cut the once blue
No red will come out of me
I will find another girl across the hall
Or meet a new girl at the mall
Shopping for hearts to break
For hands to shake
I know I will love again; I shall stop these damn tears
I know I will love again, and this I fear

    Wet candle? Hmmm

This one started off quite light and full of optimism, and then slowly turned into something far more complicated, deep and meaningful. A lovely read, Ray.
