I Have Rights - Poem by Paul Freiter

I HAVE RIGHTS

I have a learning disability,
I learn in a different way to you.
It does not mean you can call me names.
It does not mean you can disrespect me,
It does not mean I have no feeling.
It does not mean I have no dignity.
It does not mean you can treat me as a child
It doesn’t mean you can patronise me!
It does not mean I have no emotions.
It does not mean I have no dreams
It does not mean I have to smile at you,
It does not mean I have no opinions,
It does not mean you can exclude me.
It does not mean I have no value,
It does not mean I can not fall in love.
