I Have Survived - Poem by Colleen Devoto

I've had many horrors in my life
More than my fair share.
Awful, unbearable things
Plummeting me into despair.

Helpless, no one to save me
No single person who cares.
Not wanting to even live
If I was to stay there.

But the horrors ended
And I broke free.
Only to hide behind a mask
Pretending to be happy.

They don't see the pain
So they think I am fine.
But there are many wounds
And scars left behind.

I dare tell no one
Of my many secrets.
All the skeletons
Locked in the closet.

Life goes on
I made it through.
Though it was tough
I was finally rescued.

My knight in shining armor
He swept me off my feet.
And with him by my side
There's nothing I can't beat.

I've moved on to better times
But always remember the bad.
Reminding me not of the pain
But of what I now have.

And I'll always remember
As long as I'm alive.
With all that I have gone through
I have survived!

At the end of the day, it's always survival of the fittest and the faith-test. I like your poem. (Report)Reply
