In The Heat Of The Moment - Poem by Zara Jamshed

Flames like clawed nails scratch the house
Because of a cigarette in a wastebin filled with paper
Crackling in barbaric laughs like war drums
With fingers interlaced like lovers

Because of a cigarette in a wastebin filled with paper
The roof moans and leaks ashes like tears
With fingers interlaced like lovers
Acid tongues lick at the walls with lust

The roof moans and leaks ashes. Like tears
Embers collect like dust in drafty attics
Acid tongues lick at the walls. With lust,
They devoured memories in savage play

Embers collect like dust in drafty attics
The flames climax and reside in exhaustion
They devoured memories in savage play-
Hissing scorching like cries of ecstasy

The flames climax and reside in exhaustion
Flames like claws scratch. The house
Brittle with a retired spine, crumbles like clay
Crackling in barbaric laughs like war drums.
