Lone Owl

In Time - Poem by Lone Owl

You tongue moves swiftly
Lashing out with insults and hate
I respond with almost as much valor
Defending against your words
Which burn like the cool whip of the wind

A leash you scream, it’s a leash
Have you ever thought of my side?
Have you ever thought of the leash that binds me?
Maybe we are both breaking free
But do we have to drift apart?

We were once all we needed
People change, we’ve changed
Maybe the leash was a bond
A bond that was once unbreakable
Is now severed beyond repair

Nothing can fix it, you say
Maybe something can
Maybe what we need is here
But we cannot see it
Our eyes are closed by hate

Once we could fix all faults
Repairing the damage done
Will take a miracle now
Nothing short of one
Can bring you back to me

There is still hope
A cautious whisper in the wind
A gently glowing flame in the night
A needle among a million haystacks
Rare miracles, lonesome miracles

What was once a bonfire
Has now dulled to a lone ember
But that ember has the potential
To be a roaring fire again
All it needs is time
