'Independent' Is An Odd Kind Of Word. Poem by Joyce Hemsley

'Independent' Is An Odd Kind Of Word.

Starving children need food and drink
Elderly folk must have their rest
The weak and dying need a helping hand
A newly born babe needs mother's breast.
..........No-one is independent..........

The author asks for sweet solitude
Sportmen pray for steam and zest.
Musicians depend on pianos grand
A Climber's aim is the mountain crest.
..........No-one is independent..........

The orator seeks dramatic words
A Judge needs facts, put to the test
Farmers depend on arable land
And the world needs love, east to west.
..........No-one is independent..........
