It Doesn't Add Up - Poem by Kelly Kurt

We seem have a desire to count
As if everything has some amount
From people to money and beyond
We simply wield our magic wand
Thinking that love can be reckoned
Or life detailed by the second
Beauty somehow calculated
A person’s worth rightly rated
Enumeration has its place
Counting blessings, timing a race
If the urge to tally lingers
Count to ten upon your fingers

Counting or for that matter, mathematics, is the language of ignorance. We can't live without it. Great observation and therefore a 10. (Report) Reply

Math can be a great and sometimes singular descriptor of physics but doesn't do justice to the intangibles

Thank you, Sir. So many things are impossible to calculate

We keep counting as if we can fix the value of each thing by counting! We try to see if our efforts tally with the outcome! But this is foolish as many things are beyond our calculation and our tagging the price! Wise thoughts rightly put! (Report) Reply

The Whole is definitely greater than the sum of the parts...there's the magic! :) Nice poem Kelly. And yes, the couplet at the end is perfect. Thanks for sharing your poem. (Report) Reply

Mothers have long given the advice to count to ten before doing anything rash: -) Thanks, Sanjukta

How often we commit this silly mistake and we keep on repeating it.......we miss vital things and count smaller ones...Liked it Sir. Thanks for sharing such beautiful poem. (Report) Reply
