Keeping Vigil - Poem by Fahima Mohideen

With eyes wide open
Keeping sleep at bay
She lay awake
In silent vigil.

Waiting, she was
For her Daddy
To come home to her
Give her a hug.

Four years it was
Since she last saw
The beatific smile
Crinkle his eyes.

She'd missed him so much
Wanted him with her
Had he changed much?
Her angel from God.

And so she waited
Keeping sleep at bay
Waiting for him
In silent vigil.
