Let's Dance - Poem by Alison Cassidy

To live life as it is unfolding
under my nose
Right now

To accept myself as I really am
in the core of my being
Right now

To let go of the need to change the way I am
and love myself warts and all
Right now

To move to the rhythms of my true self
and allow myself to feel the tenderness within me
Right now

Life - I offer you my hand
Let's dance...

This poem is inspired by The Dance by Oriah Mountain Dreamer.

Terrific stuff Ali.A wonderful poem.Inner peace is what we all aspire to.This poem catches that ideal.Just seen a dove land on top of my fountain.Sunning herself in the early morning warmth and splashing happily in the water.Somehow I assiciate that scene with this wonderful poem.

So many comments on this poem and all I can do is echo what's been said. This poem is YOU. A gloriously open-eyed piece, Allie.

What a joyous notion that is. I'll stick that in my philosophy book for later, when I learn to dance. Nicely written too as usual. (Report)Reply

Angel Allie... a healing masterpiece... I needed this today... Uncertainty, the need for rhyme and reason rule me... Love you, thank you, Esther (Report)Reply

To be fully and unreservedly what we are is to be able to live life fully in the moment I assume - as when we laugh uncontrollably perhaps. The key to joy I suspect Allie, and also perhaps to slowing the passage of time a little - as well as being such a hard thing to do..But in this genuinely insightful piece you map the way there and set out the reasons why with great clarity and persuasiveness - and as ever, a great deal of poetic quality.. Superb. xx jim (Report)Reply

Lovely poem, Allie. Coming to terms with who we are sounds such a simple recipe…but most, inexplicably, spend their entire lives striving to be something they are not; Peer pressure; movies, ads, etc…I wrote recently ‘that by the time we have any sense, we don’t have any senses’. It seems that you have wisely side-stepped that outcome. Keep dancing :)

Alison, a lovely piece that show that we are all dancing to some form of music through our life. Some are sad songs, some are happy, some are ironic and some are tragic until the last waltz come along. Very well written, easy to read and just plain BEAUTIFUL. Thanks for sharing it.
