Let The Better Sense Prevail! - Poem by Mohammed Asim Nehal

Those melodious sounds
Chirping of birds
Sound of waterfall
Wind passing rustling leaves
Train passing by
Airplane flying over clouds
Waves at sea,
river rushes through the mountain
Shouting crow, barking dog
No cock-a-doodle-doo, today
I remember the last night
When group of people
were playing praising songs
On the loud speaker
Singing and dancing, heedlessly
Whole day and whole night
Till the time I was awake
Today, when I am awake very late
I realized no sound I can hear
What is the matter?
God gave me hearing power for free
Then who took it away?
Some crazy people, who knew nothing about
The one for whom they were singing rousing songs
Was he a noble man,
or a saint or a messenger of Almighty
God gave it and they took it.
Whom to be blamed?
When will this stop?
How many will suffer?
Let the better sense prevail.

In the first lines, you have enumerated the most beautiful and pleasing-to-the-ear sounds, then comes the disruption: annoying as the loud chats, speeding motorbikes, dog-barking; especially at night when I try to sleep. I have an extraordinary sensitivity to noise, yet I very much enjoy listening to music. I can relate to this poem. (Report)Reply

The sounds of Nature are often pleasant, but man made sounds especially those loud sounds made by machines or a mass of people can be damaging. Such sounds can impair even our hearing! How we wish that the better sense prevails in everything! (Report)Reply

Nice portrayal of various sounds around us- some created by nature and others by man made machines. But there are other sounds, too, which are too harsh to bear and are created by groups of mindless people on one pretext or the other. So, let the better sense prevail. Thanks, Asimji. (Report)Reply
