Letter To My Africa - Poem by Adelusi Nicholas

Oh! My Africa
I am an African man
I am a black man
I am made of black
Both in and out
I am made of black African soil
The son of the black soil
Oh! my Africa
You will be great again
Your children call on you to rise again
Other worlds call them niggers
Since you have fallen
Men and women became slaves
Slave to the new world
Even when slave trade no longer exist
Many have been taken away
cos they are afraid of the dead
Lost heritage lost culture
That's why they say Africa don't have history
They call you dark world
Oh! My Africa
Rise and protect your people
Even if you have to rewrite you history
Farming is the occupation of the old Africa
But everybody wants life in the city
Hunters no longer hunt for meat
They wanna wear suit
Fishermen don't wake at night again for fish
Cos African fish now think like man
Oh! My Africa
We no longer have leaders
Now we have selfish rulers
They manipulate power to their favour
Oh! My Africa
The sky is no longer blue
It's without cloud
The field is green no more
all is now artificial
The rivers dries off when it's raining
But full during dry seasons
Africa sun used to shine warm
Now the ozone layer is now compromised
Oh! My Africa
The land of peace and harmony
Is now shattered by us for strangers
They even gave us weapons
To kill each other
Oh! My Africa
I hope you heard me loud and clear
I will write to you again if nothing happens
Rise again and shine Africa
