Life As An Refugee - Poem by Melissa Furey

You go to work like its a normal day
You hear the threat of terror on the way
You think it would just pass and life go back to calm
You don't expect anything to happen but deep down you fear if anything came to harm

A few days later your world is turn upside down
You start rushing running to keep up with the crowed
All you have is the clothes on your back and your family
You are still in disbelieve of the situation but you remain possitive and happy

Your main concern is food, water and shelter to survive
You still have fear but you hope to go an another country and would go through a long journey to arrive
A new country means a new language a new way of life
It's a new start but you are thankful that you and your family are alright

Life isnt easy at first as its a new surrounding and a lot to get use to
Soon it settles down and you get back to the old you
You deal with people's views and opinions but you smile and thankfull for what the country did
Soon you think about going home when its safe to as a part of the old life you had you would always miss

Topic(s) of this poem: homeless, refugee, survival, violence, war, winter

Poet's Notes about The Poem

I have never been in this situation and I dont know anyone who has but I thought I would write about what I think they are going through and as we all have different opinions about it so i thought i would write about the fears of leaving the country you always called home and going to a new surrounding and culture so different from your own
