Life Speeds By (Lyrics) - Poem by Ruth Walters

It was only yesterday they told me I was old
but I remember back, seems just a blink ago
yes I remember back, seems just a blink ago
when tomorrow never ever, ever came.

From 4 years old to five seemed an eternity
and five to six another 10 of those
but yesterday, just yesterday they told me,
mother do you realise you've grown old.

I counted all the days ‘way back at high school
and then some when I left and went to work
but yesterday just yesterday they told me
mother do you realise you've grown old

and it seems like just a minute on my old chiming clock
when I was 17 to 59
and I tried to tell them how it is that life goes flying by
but you see I realised I don't have the time

and it was only yesterday they told me,
they told me I was too old to be strong
but strength is not just something of the body,
strength is this hard feeling in your soul

and it seems like just a minute on my old chiming clock
when I was 17 to 59 and I tried to tell them how it is
that life goes flying by
but you see I realised I don't have the time.

Nice work Ruth. None of us even consider the time, until it begins to catch up with us - then it hits. (Report) Reply
