from "Curious Creatures"
Our aging cat
who likes to be
in yard with us
goes by—
matted fur
on bony butt
then swaying tail.
On knees and hands
while pulling weeds
I watch her
make her way
toward iron gate
then squeeze
through bars.
I look if she will stop
to leave some buried treasure
in her favorite place.
But no.
She keeps on moving
with a slow
and predatory swagger
taller weeds
before her
bending left and right.
Cats are a nice topic for a poem. I grew up with many. A few are mentioned in my poems. Thanks for sharing.

She keeps on moving with a slow and predatory swagger It is quite characteristic of cats. They like to be in the open and go searching for preys and enjoy catching them... may be some mice or small birds. They enjoy eating them and prefer it to the yummy food served at home. Sometimes they simply toy with them! Nice poem on your cat!
my mind goes to us people in older age who can maintain our dignity even as unstoppable decrepitude has its way with our bodies... valsa, i appreciate you reading and commenting on my cat poems. thank you! -glen
