Like The Cat Poem by men shall know

Like The Cat

Rating: 4.5

I only know of the soot,
the black,
I’m like the cat
it stains and pains
Each pad of the paw.

And I am poor
it should be said
In some respects.

An embarrassment of riches?
You make me into a joke,
I want to choke
Choke on my own
But there is so little,
So very little
to go around,
and do the rounds,
these days.

I am so poor
Its beginning to gnaw
But I am like the cat
A petulant brat
And I will smear
When in the clear,
Leap and bound
For short a time,
Retract the claw,
I don’t want them to see,
see them shimmer,
In the haughty
moonlight
glimmer.

Its light so crisp,
Oh how my heart sinks
Sinks, when I’m bathed
in the
Stark
Silk
Light of the night.

We cats are proud
but so vulnerable
It scares me,
Right back to white.
I am too small
too small to fight
A paper tiger
Weighed down
And
Yet
unable to sink
to the depths go down.
I can’t even be gone,
‘gone with the wind’

I am the president,
I preside,
I even cried,
Shook the salt
From the cats eyes.
They didn’t run that far
And how I wish,
Wish I could retract
The water trail,
Lunar pale
Just like the claw
You never saw.
they’ll be over soon,
Over the moon.
in the end
Nine lives,
Are five too high.
