Limerick 1 - Bargaining Poem by Parameswaran Nair Damodaran Nair

Limerick 1 - Bargaining

Rating: 5.0

Where life is oscillating between profit and loss
Bargaining for everything keeps the balance tilted
Lover denies for marriage demanding huge dowry
Yesterday the betrothal was solemnised happily,
Her father bargained and got a cheap bridegroom

It is a remainder to the soceity where we live in. Today, everyone goes behind money. The affection, care and love for each other is valued by money.

Quite true. Everything in life these days is about the best bargain. People forget the true value of the invaluable things in life.

A NEW GENERATION IS COMING FORWARD WHO DOES A LEAP OF FAITH FOR THEIR BETTER HALF AND SEES A LONG TERM PROFIT IN HAVING A GOOD PARTNER THAN HAVING A GOLDEN GOOSE. GOOD NEW DAYS AHEAD.....THE POET TRIES TO PORTRAIT A SOCIAL EVIL IN A WAY THAT NO ONE WILL GO UNNOTICED.KEEP THE GOOD WORK.SIR....

This system of dowry that still exists in nooks and corners of India is so pathetic. How can anyone buy and sell in a holy marriage? The mind set of the people continues to baffle me. Well said in this poem, juggling between profit and loss, the greed for more and more, ends up with a third rate groom. A meaningful poem.

Thank you Mrs Menon for supporting my views about the dowry system which has been troubling the peaceful atmosphere of a number of families
