Lonesome Night Poem by Hermann Hesse

Lonesome Night

Rating: 3.3

You brothers, who are mine,
Poor people, near and far,
Longing for every star,
Dream of relief from pain,
You, stumbling dumb
At night, as pale stars break,
Lift your thin hands for some
Hope, and suffer, and wake,
Poor muddling commonplace,
You sailors who must live
Unstarred by hopelessness,
We share a single face.
Give me my welcome back.

What beautiful words. If I could write as sure I'd be a poet for the poor, for the joy For laughing ocean shores. You're very good. Val Brooklyn Rogers'

Hesse is known more for his literature than his poetry. But when he wrote poetry, he was just as passionate. Excellent poem!

Stars are grounded everyday and we all know the stories of birth and death of stars. Scientists like Dr. Chandrasekhar.Carl Sagan have also delved into these arena. But the little stars about whom the poet has intrigued into are really super stars aspiring everyday and night to touch the height of the sky. Thank you Poet

Hermann Hesse,1902
