Michelle's Surprise - Poem by Orlando Belo
Michelle is a spinster in her thirties,
she's lived, and knows the score.
She believes the right man for her is out there,
she just has to find him and make sure.
She usually allows herself several weeks,
to ensure he was her Mr Right.
A man who lives up to her expectations,
of honesty, loving, and pure delight.
For the past few weeks she has lived in heaven,
until she discovered her man was a living lie.
He was still using the internet dating service,
to seek out other lovers on the sly.
She thought to herself, don't get angry get even,
by using the very same dating site.
As another woman she replied to his posting,
and arranged a date for the next Friday night.
Michelle saw her boyfriend anxiously waiting,
sitting at a table set for two.
Whilst champagne cooled in the bucket,
his coolness was showing through.
She calmly walked up to the table,
pulled out a chair, and sat down.
'Hello darling, what are you doing here? ' she said.
He twitched, and nervously looked around.
'Oh, I'm just waiting for a friend, ' he said.
'Someone special I dare say, ' said Michelle.
'Aren’t champagne suppers so romantic,
especially when you’re expecting to do well? '
'Michelle, my love, what you are implying?
I'm just having dinner with a friend'
'Well aren't you just a cheating, two-timing liar?
I'm your arranged date, and this is now the end! ! ! ”
She took the champagne from the bucket and put it on the table,
then emptied the ice and water over his head.
'I think this concludes our date for this evening quite nicely,
and so, nothing more needs to be said! '
