Mindfulness - Poem by gordon nosworthy

awareness of the moment so soft so fleeting
so uncaring of what i’m doing and thinking and why
it’s the why that makes mindfulness playfulness
let’s the ego think it knows what it’s doing
that hides behind the possibilities which abound
it’s possible to realize anything
it’s possible to realize you’re in need of happiness
it’s possible to realize you need to change
it’s possible to realize you don’t know how
it’s possible to realize you need to learn to swim
it’s possible you’re already drowning
and don’t know what to do with your arms and legs

what would make me proud of me
hmmm but first what’s the me i’m referring to
the mindfulness of flight?
the swoop and flow of experience
relentlessly embracing me with all encounters
events as beautiful as dawns and dusks and slugs
sopranos in full flight
me striving to be mindful destined to fail
on that shelf of self where mindfulness breaks down
making way for all that which was
vainly mindful of all that which is
while the hands of ancestry the descent of origins
find mindfulness no more
