Mirror - Poem by Rafe Chanteloup

They said, “follow your dreams”,
But forgot to give me a map.
They said, “be successful”,
But forgot the instruction manual.
They told me, “be yourself”,
But never gave me a mirror.

Then I forgot what they said.

I made a map of my travels
An instruction manual
For each of my inventions.
Then I painted a picture
Of strength, determination,
Intelligence, and beauty:
Self titled.
