Mixed Up Confused - Poem by Rajashri Saphia Singh

a need to talk
a need to be
no longer resembling
who you used to be

a need to touch
a need to feel
no longer acting
the way you used to be

dread
no regain
too much to think
and still
contemplate and
understand
changed
embraced
no longer the same

a need to see
a need to live
no longer reading
my face as clearly as you could before

too many words bitten
too many thoughts trapped
my tongue's all pierced
my mind's all hazy
my heart's all beating crazy
too many tears held back
eyes burning through and through

if they could have told us
before
not to love
we could have
understood
we might not be
shivering in each other's touch
we might not be
stealing gazes from each other
we might not be
acting, acting, acting and dreading

dread
a wholesome feeling
no words to explain it
it's like we've done something wrong
it was wrong
it won't change
it's a secret for you to keep
and for our sakes
never let it out
we're both in trouble
oh the games
of the heart and mind
how i dread
what if
the need is let out...

dreading...
