Monsters All Around Us - Poem by Nicholas Cruser

Bedtime again
Have to fight through another night
The door closes locking you in your cell,
Darkness fills my eyes
Senses are turned high,
Picking up sounds heard in another world
You know they’re there,
The green slimy kid eating monsters
They lurk in the shadows
One slip and you are doomed
No way to tell where they are,
Unseen under the cover of night fall
You hide under your covers and wait for morning,
Knowing it will never come.
Your eyes droop but you can’t let down your guard.
Rest is overcoming, making you weaker,
An easier target for them.
Your eyes shut, overwhelmed with restlessness.
You accept the fate
You’ll never see the light of day again
Wait, a voice, there’s a voice a familiar voice
Light reaches your eyes
“Wake up sweetie time to get ready for school”
Your alive, you survived the deadly hours of darkness
Now you prepare yourself for tonight.
