My Family’s Keeper Poem by Leia Persephone

So once again I am left to twist in the wind.
Always to be my family’s keeper,
To leave them be would be so much cheaper
But alas my guilt feelings won’t let that be.
I speak not of money, of course, but of self.

As a girl, I did beg You to leave but alas that was not to be.
Always to be my family’s keeper.
To leave Him is too hard You did say, but leave Him you did
in your own time, too bad You also left all us young ones there.
I know, it was too risky too take us. I don’t believe You!

When a young woman I became, You and others did shun me.
Still I was my family’s keeper.
I was the bridge to Him and to You., tore my guts out you both did!
But all that mattered was that Yours and His feelings were protected.
What the hell about me? But I said nothing for so long, even still to this day.

I was the one who fretted so, scared of Him but mad at You.
Always to be my family’s keeper.
I had to protect my sister, my brother from Him, of course, and let us not forget Your feelings.
You had honestly been done so wrong, I agree, but He said the same. I think you both did us wrong.
But always the mediator I did stay.

Oh, it is not all Your fault I would never say that…He was so evil at times.
But still I was my family’s keeper.
You and my sister suddenly were a team, no one had it is bad as you two.
But what of Your son, so young You did leave? I guess, like us, he was a necessary casualty.
I never downed You to him, always took up for You I did.

So on this the eve of his wedding day, to whom the motherly honor did he bestow?
Still I stay my family’s keeper.
Not to me, his faithful keeper, but to You who failed him so!
Yes, I know it is proper and in all honesty I truly want it to be this way.
It just hurts! !
