My Heart Follows After Poem by Raymond Pullen

My Heart Follows After

In the morning, when I wake, I wonder who my heart will follow after.
I must live every day, as if to say who my heart will follow after.
I have pondered this question all my life. Now I must try to understand,
The feelings I have inside. My heart is gentle, so I must be sure that what I feel is true.
I have been without true love for so long, will I know it when it comes.
With each new day I am given, I search out the reasons why I feel the way I do.
In my life, I have only known one that can make my heart truly sing with joy.
I long for the day, when I can be the one who can say, “Yes I have truly found the love that was meant for me”.
And if I have truly found the love of my life, will I be able to show her how much I feel.
Will she be able to understand that I am for real?
The human heart is a peculiar creature, it can be so soft and gentle, yet it can be hard as stone.
I must allow my heart to be soft, so I can feel all that is true.
A hard heart misses so much of what life has to offer.
This is love that I feel. All things point in that direction.
I missed it once, and cannot allow it to slip away again.
Now, in the morning when I wake, I know who my heart will follow after.
It will follow the heart of the angel who has guarded it.
Amy, you are the angel that has taken my heart.
I know you will guard it well, because you are the one my heart follows after.
