My Hero

Rating: 5.0

I was descending from the high to low
My world seemed shattered, I wondered how
A bridge I thought I would cross alone
Fighting off all the fiends, all alone

The wordless cry of my soul and heart
Trying to break the chains apart
Trying to get a head to turn
To notice that I had been cursed

By forty eight hands of the foolish and the wise
What didn't I do to make those hands feel nice?
This was the question swirling around my broken mind
For I had cried enough tears. Yes I had
To see my own reflection in them

Then came an angel, my hero
Who lifted me up from the status of zero
With her tender hands she stuck back
The pieces which my heart had lacked

She fixed my eyes to see good things
In this bad bad world full of fiends
Not one in this world I have seen who cares
So much for me as she does

I will hold her tight in my heart
In the deepest depth where memories don't fall apart

~Yours truly

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I dedicate this poem to my favourite teacher. It takes us to the time when my world was shattered by my class, consisting of forty eight students excluding me, when they together conspired to make me lose my position as the class representative or council member. My class consists of foolish as well as wise students. I felt so lonely and sad. My teacher came to know about this. When I met her in the corridor, she gave me a pat in the most caring and motherly way. She told me not to lose faith and keep trying. I did so and, because of that, I got an even more better post, that is, the council secretary, the one who coordinates the council members. She continues to inspire me and I will revere this bond beyond the ties of our blood. Forever and ever more.

Beautiful tribute to a dedicated and compassionate teacher, well articulated and elegantly brought forth in good rhyme scheme from the heart with conviction. A lovely poem indeed. Thanks for sharing Sneha.
