My Love

Poem by Roy Kieling

I had never believed in love at first sight
But when she came through that door an hour before night

I got a lump in my throat, I've been wrong all these years
I whispered to myself 'I love you' and from my eyes came a line of tears

Her big blue eyes a twinkle of a star
Hair like champagne but not from a bar

Oh mother Oh mother I have found her at last
you must see her come fast come fast

I must speak to her but not be too forward
But looking into those eyes made my speech a little backward

Perhaps she is a movie star or even a princess
My boy come back down to earth and forget all this foolishness

For at the animal shelter one meets all kinds with fur
When I put her in her carrier to take her home out came a big purr
