My Peace - Poem by Robin Huntsman

You were always there.
No matter how hard my life became.
No matter how much pain I put myself through.
You were the friend I needed.
You were the friend who listened.
You gave me space to make mistakes,
but you always let me know you were there for me.

I didn’t need you. I didn’t.
I told myself that, over and over.
It was easy to say. If it was true, why did I miss you so?

I hated when she called me crying.
Didn’t she realize what she had?
Didn’t she know how wonderful you are?
Did she know what she was doing to me?
Did she know she was making me want you more?

Now, lying in bed listening to you breath, how happy I am.
Feeling your arms around me, I’ve found peace.
A peace I wasn’t sure I could ever find.
