My wife's concern is justified—as just mentioned in
a previous poem, I have twice been suddenly attacked,
severely beaten on Farm Gate Road (just up the street
from our home, less than 100 meters distance) the second
time in 2019, the first on September 17, 2014 at 7: 15 p.m.,
my head, face smashed into the concrete sidewalk by the attacker who had hit me from the side with a baseball bat
or 2'X4' piece of timber as I was riding my bike down
the sidewalk on my way home just after dark—then
he fled, did not strike me again, perhaps thinking
I was dead, took no money that had fallen out of
my pocket … I had not lost consciousness though,
could feel my cheek against the sidewalk, warm
blood oozing out of my face, could hear his footsteps,
him running down the sidewalk towards Buck Jones
Road through the darkness—I lay there, stunned
at first, but after a few minutes had regained my
composure, picked myself up off the sidewalk,
and walked home, after which my wife Kim
drive me to Duke Raleigh Hospital where an M.D.
sewed up my face in the Emergency Room,
told me I was lucky not to have been blinded
in the attack—one of the lacerations in my face,
head incredibly close to an area of the head,
anatomy where blindness can occur with trauma—
yes, I was indeed fortunate, but my entire body
bled from head to toe, bruises and contusions
everywhere. And, still, the police repeated the
extreme violence—the infamous police 'copycat'
protocol—through a proxy five (5) years later,
just up the street at the intersection of Suncreek
Court and Farm Gate Road very early on a Sunday
morning in 2019, making sure no witnesses were
present at the time—this is how the police work.
Yes, the police had displayed their power to Kim
on Wednesday at our front door—but impressed
it upon her in exactly the wrong way as things
have turned out, readers, the police, utterly
shameless now bearing Kim's full blame …
