Never Again - Poem by Yvonne Fernandez

I sit in a corner cold and alone
There are tears running down my face flowing like the raging Nile
The room spins in tight circles as I try to crawl into a ball
I’m loosing grip
I’m so sick of this
Sick of making mistakes
Sick of being wrong
Sick of making the people I live with mad again
Guess I made a mistake
But when don’t I do something wrong?
Since I was born I made mistake after mistake
As much as I try
Oh and I try so hard
It seems I just can’t do it right
From simple to big I’ve done it all
I never seem to please anyone
I can’t do anything right
Maybe one day I will accomplish something
Maybe one day I’ll finally get it right
That day will be the best day
That’s when I’ll throw it in their face
Look, I’ve done something with my life
Yup, I’m an determined and dependable woman
And even if you didn’t have faith in me
I just wanted you to know that I made it through my childhood
I’m strong now
And you will never bring me down like you used to
You will never make me feel as low as the dirt on the floor
You will never make me feel like I won’t account to anything ever again.
