No Longer Pretend - Poem by Cristelle Elaine Collera
We hold hands and call each other 'Dear',
We even have an anniversary.
But we're nothing more than just best friends
Playing a silly little game of pretend.
I'm yours and you're mine, laughingly
'Cause your heart's hers, literally.
I'm only the one helping you
Make her fall for you too.
We hang out on Fridays of late,
But never on a single date.
'Cause all you talk about is her smile,
Which makes your days worthwhile.
I've stayed beside you through everything,
Through every joy and every pain,
When she left you, to your distress
I was there to help you pick up the pieces.
You invited me to watch the night sky with you
And I got there as fast as I could.
You close your eyes and turn to me
Telling me to make a wish.
For a big shooting star flies by
I'm lying on the grass, by your side.
These strange feelings now arise
How could I have been blind all this time?
As I lay my head upon your shoulder,
You wish we'd stay friends forever.
But I'm silently wishing for something else
For this game to become no longer pretend.
