Noises - Poem by Gordon Jerome

Within the darkness deep at night
exist the sounds that cause me fright
for what could all those noises be
a monster creeping up on me
for in the darkness they do stay
and in the shadows they do play
closets seem to be their home
and not far from them do they roam
I hear them underneath my bed
should they pop out I often dread
I pull the covers over tight
as I prepare for the long dark night
my flashlight kept at the ready near
in case another noise I hear
WAIT something moved I grab my light
to brighten up the darkest night
I heard it run across the floor
and bounce right off my closet door
my screams they wake the entire house
there in my light a frightened mouse.
'closing thought'
So if in the darkness a noise you fear
remember this my little dear
theres nothing in the dark of night
that is not there in the bright daylight
