Now And Then - Poem by Archan Mehta

It strikes me:
how, when we are young,
we reach towards the sun.

But now, that we are old,
we have to unburden this
heavy load.

Looking back, we feel
life was bliss
we miss
the halcyon days
replete with gentle ways
of traipsing through the woods
and dancing in the rain
so removed from any pain.

But now that we are old,
there are bills to pay
and challenges to overcome
we have come undone
and no longer fetch the sun.
