Ode To Peter - Poem by kathleen shefman

Alas the time has done arrived
to analyze my life.
Lord knows I've had my share of good,
And damn, my share of strife.
But the portion that I'm now talkin' 'bout
is our 'relationship.'
And just to make this dang thing rhyme,
I'll start by saying 'shit.'

There's nothing you hate more,
than me loving you.
Nothing that can raise
short hairs faster-
than my promise
to be true.
I know I'm giving you
the willies now-but hell that's
nothing new.
Darlin' I can't help myself
Darling I despise myself,
Darling don't play with yourself,
cause dammit, I love you.

They used to say ' be coy, '
and your man'll chase ya.
They didn't tell me afterwards,
he'd tackle and debase ya.
Changing your old sweet tune of
'Baby, don't get hooked on me, '
To 'Are you calling me tonight? '
and 'Your the one for me.'

There's nothing you hate more,
than me loving you.
Nothing that can raise
short hairs faster-
than my promise
I'll be true.
Bet'cha'll getting all
itchy now-but hell that's
nothing new.
Darling I can't help myself
Darling I'm getting drunk myself,
Darling, gettting skunked myself,
and dammit, I love you.
