Oh God - Poem by Amy Jones
Dear spiritual overseer,
I do not now what will happen when if I die.
I do not know if I’ve been good.
Church is crap.
But I’d almost make the commitment because they make hell look so goddamn scary,
But then God would know that I was faking.
Are non-Christies judged by the ten commandments too
Or do they automatically go to hell just for not “having faith”?
I have had no other gods,
I have not worshiped anyone else
I misuse the name of “God” every day
I’m still 2 for 3 though, not that many people can have a perfect 10
I don’t work Sundays right now,
I like to keep it off so I have one day to relax.
What does it mean to ‘honor’? Obey?
I obey them okay…
Did God consider that not all people ought to be parents and not all parents ought to be obeyed?
Sanctioning child-abuse would be a lesser crime in the history of any church.
I have never murdered
I have never been married to commit adultery but I did…
I have shoplifted…
Hell, I still steal my tips from work every shift and I never feel guilt
Everyone lies and if they don’t, they’re lying.
What about you God? If you don’t lie then tell me where dinosaurs and homo erectus fit into your grand story?
I don’t know the difference between ‘coveting’ your neighbour’s house and stealing, so I say no,
I’ve already got busted on the stealing one.
So, I think Church is crap
and I make no effort to obey any rules
and I just got 7 outta 10.
