Once The One You Loved Poem by Heather Kemper

Once The One You Loved

There is no way to fix us
no way to change what has been done.
To erase the damage the way we feel
go back to when we were one.

I wish a million wishes
I say a million prayers.
Wanting to be something good for you
instead I destroy how much you care,

I failed you everyday I know
I constantly let you down.
You'll never be able to believe the truth
not as long as I am around.

I want so badly to see you smile
I wish to be the cause.
But to stop and be honest with you now
my chest hurts, ... I have to pause.

I haven't helped or healed you
I've never made you whole.
Now I can barely make you smile.
I've been a poison to your soul.

I know you believe I wanted this
I wanted to let you down.
I wanted you to hate life with me
and to hate yourself when I'm around.

The truth is I've always loved you
with everything that I am.
I wanted you then I want you now
above everything to be my friend.

I realize I can't be what you need
not anything you see as good.
I want for you to live not bleed
to be happy like you should.

So I release you now from all your vows
from forever and from your love.
Please be happy be free and dream
forget this failure if you could.

You own my heart forever
even if our time is done.
And forever I'll be grateful
I was once the one that you loved.
