Open Hearts - Poem by wendy martinez

The windows to hearts in the world are always there. Some are closed with the blinds drawn. Others, forever wide open. But we must choose to open our windows to the sight of others. If you choose not to open up, you have chosen not to touch the world. If only those special beings could see that there is so much more to this life than meets the eye. A flower blooms in the spring. The wind blows it over its soft, weak petals. But yet it stands. Its strength contradicts that of the wind. It may be small, but buts its courage to face the world is larger than anything in this life. The cycle repeats. Yet, it continues to live. Not because it needs to live, but because it wants to. Don’t ever waste your precious time with people who are ungrateful of every gift they’ve been given. If you haven’t already, open the blinds, unbar the window, and love the way no one has ever loved before.
