Opportunity Poem by James Jones

Opportunity

Rating: 5.0

An opportunity,
is a seed.
And at a special time
you are given that seed.
Some people are given it often
some less so.
Some have to try hard
some don't.
Some people are ready
others are not.

But all that does not matter.

What matters is what you do with that seed.
Do you plant it and let it grow
into something beautiful
or do you chuck it away.
That shows what kind of person you are:
When you use that seed wisely.
Not all seeds must be planted
often they would create a bush of thorns
that would hurt you.
But when you throw away the ones
that grow into beautiful flowers.
Then you have wasted an opportunity.

Missing one is not so bad
others will come
but when you miss one
after another
after another
and
so
on
and
so
forth.
Then you realise...

What a fool I am.
To waste something beautiful when I could plant it.
When I sit there and watch myself throw it all away.
Over and over.
Too repressed by my own
convuluted
confused
feelings.
To realise that I should plant what I have
and not run away
or hide.
But no.
I am a fool.
I'll try
and I'll try
but the stench of failure does not rub clean
and I failed
and worries fill me.
Am I stuck
failing?

One big failure for the rest of time.
It's probably not
alot to you.
But then again it could well be the world.
But I doubt that.
Chances are it's only in my head.
But I'm sory
nonetheless.
