Other Place Poem by Majdoleen (Maggie) Sukayri

Other Place

I run miles, yet still
I find myself standing.
Time and time again
I tell myself it'll all go away.
But not this pain
This stays for always

Minutes pass by and I know it grows.
I thought nothing would keep you from me.
This thing we're in is stronger than both you and me.
As you lay here in my arms,
I see that your eyes speak of a faraway land,
a place of which no one speaks.

Fear overwhelms me and I cry my nights away.
I try to tell myself you'd go to a better place.
A place that knows no pain
A place that overcame time
A place that has no you and me…

When I first saw you,
after years of loneliness,
I knew I had to let you go.
I only came to ease your way through
To this better world

You suffered too long
and maybe you deserve it.
But greed makes me want to keep you.

Make it easier on me… and say the words
I need to hear, to let you go…
Give me a blessing;
Send me to that other place…
Where needing you is just a ‘was'
