Pain Poem by Godfrey Machuka

Pain

It's strange how pain marks our faces,
And makes us look like family
Sitting off by ourselves in our own sullen little parties of one
Jaws slack, eyes distant, shoulders slumped, hands dangling
Cursing in voiceless outbursts of frustration
Weaving crimes in our desperate hearts
Painfully, yet carefully

Our value to others compromised
By the persistent failures that define us
Yeah, desperados hanging on the loose noose of hope
We choose the fun of hurting others
To share with them the cruelty of life

Their pain thus becomes our joy,
Their cries the anthem of our consolation
That our pain has been spread
Lighter now for us to bear
For such once virgin hearts
Express what we daily yearn to dispose

Behold in our worn out perseverance
Are conspiracies to even what fate offers
With eyes trained to hate
And these minds sharpened to rate
We are bound to extinguish
The little pebbles of joy in you
All these against our wish
And blame it on life’s in-equilibrium.
