Perfection(Isn'T) Ism Poem by B.A. Phillips

Perfection(Isn'T) Ism

Why try and be perfect?
It only makes a man hate himself
For what he cannot be
And conceives the very fire
That consumes his every will
His actions are only for what's best
And his decisions are made from hard logic
He tries to ignore emotions
Living by perfection driven reason
Striking out many basic needs
Rest, relationships, play, passion...
Trying to drive out demons that aren't even there
He cannot accept an ounce of failure
He cannot deny a higher standard
Raising the bar until he cannot reach it
