Petaling Street Chinatown Poem by Kwai Chee Low

Petaling Street Chinatown

Rating: 5.0

Chinatown, such a kaleidoscope of rich colors and ear-splitting sounds
Amid shouts of 'Cheap, cheap, murah, murah! ' abound

A human wave of heat hits you
As you push through the barrier of flesh
And avoid colliding with all manners of clothes and handbags
Hanging at head level without price tags

Confused by the myriad colors and endless wares
Pushed from the front and pressed at the sides
Tourists here and backpackers there and everywhere

You reciprocate and join in with glee
Stopping at last to strike a good deal
And end up loaded with 'Nike' shoes and 'Gucci' bags
Satisfied with nary a care for authenticity

You push against the last of the crowd
Finally out into the cool fresh night
It is a moonlit Chinatown night, a beautiful sight!

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

the fried chest nuts and coffee seeds, once allured the hearts of many, the fresh blooms and the rough tannery, perfect combination for fruit display, every branded items tangible and in CDS, a wonderful place to remember for fun, and bargain an iconic narrow lane.. new malls of KL mock at it now... KCL, your poem is superb. I enjoyed and responded at once..Thank you for sharing..
