Physics At The Foundation Of Matter And Energy - Poem by gordon nosworthy

believe that
don’t believe that
a belief in that
mimics the approach
of reason
a belief in that
repeats itself
to believe that
is a belief in that

so to believe
in that
is to believe that
over that
even though that
has the weight
of that
sight is wasted
on those who see
only what
they see

hate is for children*
those who believe
with understandings
embedded and undeletable
hate is for amoebae
collections unable to escape
unable to understand
any other way

the path of that
follows that path
without much upheaval
without a need to detour
without the need
to reason
the pretence of logic
its application
saying i don’t know
does not mean
a lack of beliefs
the unavailability
of assumptions

when the first cell
dictated a movement
no thinking involved
measured by reaction
reasoning is far too long
something small
wants to escape
something larger
we learned that
as amoeba
decide quickly
or die
death yelled
and yells still
the collection of amoeba
bound by the belief
in that over that
even though that
deserves to exist
just as much as that
that is just as much reasoning
just as rationale
as the belief in that

*hate is for children
(from the movie the 33)
