Prey - Poem by Semeen Sultan

Deep red, dark
Spreading slowly
Petals of pain, unfurling with choreographed precision
Like a perfect sphere that multiplies in ever widening ripples.
An ache seeps through my blood insidiously,
And spills my breath,
An arrow pinning me mid-flight,
Stunning my mind with shocking unfamiliarity,
As its poison settles hotly in my throat.

I fall.
