Radiate

you glitter like nothing I’ve ever seen
but you fall so fast into your darkness
you fade so slow and gradually
so thick like honey but only half as sweet
you sparkle so brilliant and vivaciously
then you black out razor sharp
everyone picks at you sublime soul
like vultures come upon the dead-
swift, domineering, and ravenous
sometimes you shine for all the world to see
I’d like to think sometimes you shine solely for my eyes to see
like a burning candle in the dark
to illuminate my caliginous abyss
they say that you glow like a golden ember in the dead of night
and that people gather round
to watch your painstaking eternal death
but you keep going,
to their dismay
you radiate like the sun after a long nagging rain
the sky is bright with your life
you break the ominous clouds with your glistening rays
just your presence sets the world on fire-
blazing hot and thick in midday
yet I see you when no one else does
when you give off that beautiful luster
only after the moon has come up
they will try to rob you of your beauty
degrade and ravage your purity and genius
and though I am only the darkness
I will always protect your loveliness
and I beg of you to never stop glittering
