Ramadan Poem by Ibn Ali

Ramadan

The most poignant lesson learnt,
Difficulty precedes ease,
In moments of pain, pleasures hard to perceive,
In times of change, consistency's hard to conceive
But if you refrain from haste and patience reigns
The outcome would prove well worth the wait,
For the soul to prosper we stave our desires,
To regain self control and water the fire,
If the Paradise was cheap everybody would buy
But the believers philanthropy sets him aside
So we spend of ourselves in the hope Allaah accepts,
Stand in prayer hoping the aching of our feet on that day would afford us some rest,
We let the tears flow in remembrance to barter some shade,
Repent and ask forgiveness for the wrongs that we've made,
Fasting begets empathy for the penniless, a cure for excess,
A detox for the senses that resets and cleanses
Our tongues fast when we withhold it, from backbiting and scolding,
Keep the eyes lowered so as not to stir the cauldron,
Ears are kept closed by choosing what goes in them,
We do for our creator knowing He'll reciprocate it,
Benevolent to His slaves,
Master of all creation.
