Reflection - Poem by Daniel Cohlmen

When I look in the mirror, what do I see?
Only my reflection stares back at me
I see the scars deep on my heart
The ones that try to tear it apart
Yet somehow I manage to get by
With no one to hold me when I cry

Time has passed and my reflection has changed
The scars have faded and rearranged
My heart is now open to show its true beauty
Filling my body with a sense of duty
To help those people just like me
In a time where no one hears their plea

So that when they look in the mirror
Their reflection is clearer
And the pain that once held them back
No longer keeps them off track
So they can make a difference is someone’s life
And help them overcome their overriding strife
