Revelation - Poem by Michelle Freeman

When the darkness ends there is always light –
But when the darkness is here
It clings, it cloys it curdles around me, inside me.

When the darkness begins I always cry –
For when I open my eyes I see only dark clouds in the sky above around me, inside me.

When the darkness reigns I am always angry –
Because wherever I go there is dirt and filth and noise and dust around me, inside me, on me.

Where the darkness is I am always consumed –
But sometimes the darkness elevates to a form of fanatic frantic frenzy around me, inside me, from me.

Where the darkness is I am always consumed –
Then it comes slowly, frightening me.
It comes slowly warming my coldness around me, inside me.

When the darkness dies I am always scared –
It breaks through slowly melting my wall of ice dispelling the gloom that settles there around me, inside me.

When the darkness dies I am always lost –
It filters like fingers throwing off covers,
Parting the curtains as the darkness goes from me.

When darkness dies I am always trembling –
It is His scarf breaking the bonds,
So heavy are these chains and cuffs but silk banishes them from me.

When the darkness ends there is always light –
The light so bright, so warm;
My thoughts so clear, so easy to interpret;
His love flows through me.

When the darkness leaves, He is always there.
