ashes fill the floors and long dead screams fill the night
Shattered pictures on the tile, remnants of doors hanging askew
lives torn in the blink of an eye, an abused child lies dead
...

I almost can't imagine living one day
without your sweet and ever tender smile
as you bring rich color to shades of fall
and you keep my body warm on cold nights.

The screams of a madman are seldom heard
His cries go unheeded - he pleads with the night
When lightening strikes on this down-trodden face
his actions are now viewed by all with delight
...

The house is clean and spotless
and smells of fresh baked bread
the laundry is all folded
the kids asleep in bed
...

All I see is darkness,
as I try to reach out for you,
I don't understand what's happening,
what are all these changes I'm going through?

The sun begins to set
and you are by my side
We walk along in the sand
holding each other hand

Why can't you see past the rags; beneath the grime and dirt?
Why can't you see this man is broken; from too much pain & hurt?
Homeless cold and sad; he shivers on an empty bench;
the park is void of children playing; but has a poor man's stench.
